ARRIVAL OF MISSION. Among the passengers by the R.Ms. Niagara are Miss F. M. Girdler, Administrator, Women's Royal Air Force, and Miss G. Watkin, Technical Inspector' Board of Agriculture (women's branch )] who are credited by the British Government upon a misKion of inquiry a,s to the extent to which openings are likely to be available in New Zealand for women settlers from Great Britain. The inquiry is particularly concerned with openings for women _-ho have served in one ot the enrolled services, namely, the Women's Auxiliary Army " Corns, Women's Royal Air Force," Women's Royal Naval Service. Land Army and V.A.D. The members of the mission leave at once for Wellington to present their credentials to the Governor-Gen-eral, but will return to Auckland later to make inquiries connected with their mission.

The habit of cycling on the footpaths at Avondale is one that the police is discouraging. Eight Avondale residents came before }tr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., today for using the footpath of the street •as a cycling track. They were:—Jno. Gordon, Ernest L. Wood, Root. C. Abel, Sidney W. Wood, H. T. Yansen, Mark Williamson, Duncan Turner, and Frederick Bishop, and each was fined 5/ and 9/ costs.
