OVERSEERS AND TIMEKEEPERS j DISPUTE. ' I FULL SETTU—IENT. BY INDUSTRIAL AGREEMENT. Tlie dispute of the Auckland Overseers and Timekeepers in connection with ■ waterside work again occupied the attention of a Conciliation Council pre-1 sided over by the Commissioner (Mr.j T. Harlc Giles) this morning. A full] settlement was arrived at in the morn-1 ing sitting, the dispute having thus extended over four day*. The settlement J is to take the form of an industrial agreement and the following are the principal terms and conditions - Definitiiuis. — A foreman is an employee working under the direction of a wharf manager, wharfinger, superintendent or master stevedore, and whose principal duty it is to engage or take charge of a gang or gangs of wharf lahotir employed in loading, discharging, or handling the cargoes of sen-going vessels, and to carry out the instructions of the above-mentioned oilicials. A timekeeper is an employee whose principal duty it is to keep time at the various ships or jobs on which any labour is employed in connection with the loading or discharging of sea-going vessels. A senior foreman is an employee who, in addition to the duties of foreman, is responsible for the engaging of labour and for the starting and finishing, and supervising of the work during the whole time of discharging or unloading, and who is nominated -for the position by the employer. Hours of work.—The ordinary hours of work, exclusive of meal times, shall j not exceed 44 per week and shall lie worked between S a.m. and ."> p.m.. on Monday to Friday inclusive, and between S a.m. and noon on Saturday, with the exception of half an hour's margin for the engagement of labour. Holidays.—Any work done on Christmas Day. Good Fy-day, or Sunday shall be paid for at double ordinary overtime rates. Each employee receiving the minimum rate of wages shan tie entitled to a fortnight's holiday per annum on full pay. Wages—Senior foremen. £5 5/ per week; foremen. £4" 10/ : timekeepers. £4 5/ per week. Overtime.—Three shillings per hour.
