SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Every year the Auckland Sunday -fchool Cr.ion holds a series of gatherings. Last evening in the "West Street Church the fifty-fourth annual meeting was held, with Mr. 11. Dearslcy presiding. The annual report stated that Rev. F. 11. Radford, secretary, had been compelled by illness to retire and an assistant ha,l to carry on the duties. The early establishment of a Sunday School institute »va>s to be hoped for. Mr. E. fH. Pain had regularly carried on missionary work in tbe country, although in winter time both he and the country children were seriously hampered by the bad state of the roads. Parkhurst, Parakai, Taupaki and "Muriwai, in the North, had new schools established by _\lr. Pain. 110 .schools under tlie union had entered 10U7 pupils for the annual scripture examinations. A Public Affairs Committee had been formed to help the children in a social way. Officers for tlie coming year were elected as follows: —President, Mr. F. Rowe -. permanent past president, Mr. 11. Dearsley; \ ice-presidents, Revs. H. A. Johnson. ,T. Patterson, and L. Busfield, Messrs. .1. Astley and A. G. Jones; general treasurer, Mr. J. M. Barr; acting treasurer. Mr. A. tl. Jones; acting-secre-tary, Mr. A. McDonald; assistant secretary. Miss Evans; visitor, Mr. 11. Scott; committee, Mrs. Le Rioy, Revs. W. A. Burley and J. Budd, Messrs. Barry and J. Hycroft: director, Mr. A. J. Booth: secretary to director, Mr. A. Jones. A conversazione followed the meeting, and tomorrow evening there will be a devotional service held. The big gathering of the series will be the annual rally, which is to be held in the Town Hull on Saturday evening. The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. .1. Eutrican, will preside, and in addition lo the choir of 400 children's voices there will be many musical numbers.
