NORTHCOTE COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Northcote Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presided, and Councillors Ralph Birch, J. T. Aspden, W. P. Roberts, D. H. Davles, W. Iv. A. Stewart, G. H. Lyon, and Wni. Spence were also present. Wharf Appron-ch Wall.—The foreman ot works reported tnat the sea wall at the wharf approach was sustaining damage, necessitating repairs. About 115 ft In length needed replacing. It was decided to hold a special meeting to consider the best means to adopt concerning this wall when | v reply had been received from the Harbour Board to a request made for a report thereon. Marine Doroughs Association.—The constitution of the Marine Uoroughs Assoclai ion was considered. The Mayor explained that the annual subscription had been fixed at six guineas, subject to confirmat lon of each council, though It was prohnTjle this sum would not cover all the expenditure required, which could be met by a supplementary subscription if found necessary. A motion by Councillor Davles Uiat the Council cannot see its way to joiu the Association wus defeated, ou the casting vote of the Mayor, In favour of a suggestion by Councillor Birch that the subscription be five guineas. This, however, was eventually defeated by a subsequent amendment by Councillor Spence, seconded by Councillor Davles, that the Northcote Council defer joining the Marine Boroughs Association for twelve months, a proposal by Councillor Roberts that the Council suggest that the subscription be confined to three guineas, with one representative, being also disposed of. The proposal to defer membership for twelve months was finally agreed to. Stray Cattle.—Steps were taken to Immediately deal with the nuisance of wandering cattle, numerous complaints having been received.
