CLAIM FOR RENT.
A XOXS-VIT ENTKKED. A case was called in t ho auxiliary courtroom this morning, before Mr. J. \V. Poyntoii. S.M.. in which Henry Lowis sought to recover from Mrs. Margaret Allen £11 arrears of rent, alleged to be duo. and also asked for possession of a tenement. Mr. C. 0. 1-en-naid, who apponred for tlic defence, explained that action had l>ecn entered in the Supreme Court to endeavour to get a lease granted. The plaintiff had already received the benefit of advice from two firms of solicitors, but had taken this action himself. A question of title wus really involved. Mr. Poynton informed plaintiff that the case could not be proceeded with for two reasons. The Court lind no jurisdiction in a question of title. and it had no right to hear a case when there was already a case set down for hearing in the Supreme Court. Mr. Lewis >ai<] he could not get a lawyer to come and plead for him. lie hnd been in New Zealand for (>•.> wars, and he challenged anyone to bring one thins aftainst him. lie had to pay C-JO to one solicitor. Mr. Poynton: "Yes: lawyers are very expensive: but I cannot hear this case Yon will he nonsuited, and must pay do fondant's, costs." Mr. Lewis said: "It is disgraceful what 1 have suffered the last few year.*." His Worship remarked: "l' cannot heir you when a question of title is involved.'
