GAMBLING IN BERLIN.
1 Berlin is to-day unquestionably the 3 greateet guming city in Europe, says the "Tunes" correspondent. Gaming clube . shoot up in all parts of Berlin like mush- . rooms in a meadowland. There are as a many as sixty, I am assured, in the west j ! alone, in the neighbourhood of the K.ure furstendamm, and the newspapers are c constantly publishing advertisements connected with gambling. Croupiers are a offered situations, roulette tables are j offered for sale, and not the slightest a secrei-y is observ L -d with regard to this j |j demoralising pursuit. ( c The largest and most elegant gaming , ' B club is situated in Unter den Linden. Some 500 persons gamble there every day, r and as much as 50,000 marks (£2,500) ' j and more a night is spent on card money i 5 alone. The casliiers in the clubs earn on an ■ c average at least 500 marks (£25) an (. evening, and the attendants not infre- j quently get 1,000 marks (£SO) and more when it is a matter of special service, as, for example, getting a taxi. /
