OTAGO BEATS AUCKLAND. . The telegraphic chess match between teams from the Auckland .and Otago clubs, which was begun a week ago, was finished on Saturday evening. A number of unfinished games have yet to be referred to Wellington for adjudication, but the result is practically a pronounced win for the Southern players. The game* . stood as follows when piny ceased at about cloven on Saturday" night, the Otago names mentioned first: 1. Balk v. Kden, unfinished; 2, Armstrong v. Freeman, unfinished; 3, Frieberg v. Pickett, win for Otnjro; 4, Ellis v. Stewart, unfinished; 5, Hamcl v. Wingfield, unfinished : 6, Stenhouso v. Evans, unfinished; 7, Myers v. Coyne, win for Otago; 8, Coombs v. Adams, unfinished: 9. Amtman v. Hemus, win for Otago: 10, Wright v. Sim, win for Otapo: 11. Ward v. Davidson, unfinished; 12, Allen v. Senior, win for Auckland; 13, Henderson v. Putman, win for Otago; 14, Warman v. Barker, win for Auckland. Mr. Mackenzie was telegraph operator. The umpires were Mr. F. Harvey for Auckland and Mr- C. " Watson for Otago, and the scrutineers at Auckland were Messrs. Hall and Sullivan.
