BETTER ROADS WANTED.

CONFERENCE RESUMES. MORE COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME SUGGESTED. The conference of local body representatives interested in the improvement of the main roads of the district was continued at the A. and P. rooms, Hio-h Street, this afternoon, when the report c. eub-eommitte was authorised to formulate -was received and considered. The first session of the conference considered the adoption of a scheme for the improvement of Great South Road from Newmarket to Papakura, and of the road from Newmarket to Howick, and concluded by selecting Messrs. A. D. Bell, A. McDonald, H. Dobbie. and the chairman of the Ellerslie Town Board and Mount Wellington Road Board -2s p- sub-committee to formulate a definite proposal. The committee passed a resolution, saying, "That the original proposal of dealing only with the roads between Auckland, Howick, and Papakura is not far-reaching enough. Therefore they recommend the wider scheme of including the main arterial roads from Helensville to Hamilton, and that a meeting should be called of all local bodies concerned, together with representatives from the Chambers of Commerce and the Good Roads Association, to discuss the more comprehensive scheme." The conference is now proceeding.
