A healthy sample of the much-discussed land crabs that -were currently reported to have effectively played the part of ■scavengers with regard to the 'bodies of the Germans who were washed ashore from the Emden on Cocos Island was shown to a representative of the "Star" this morning by the mate of the Whangape, trading between Auckland and the Pacific Islands. The sp T eeimen was captured on the Makatea Island, in the Eastern. Pacific, and, judging by the size and apparent strength of its claws, it is quite easy to imagine that the work of a scavenger would be performed very effectively. Its colouring is its most attractive feature, and is somewhat suggestive of the rainbow hues that might be associated with tropical islands and coral reefs. Sharland's "Moa"' Brand Egg Preservative never fails to keep fresh eggs sweet and good. Thousands use it.—
