TRAMWAY APPEAL BOARDS.

ALLEGED WRONGFUL DISMISSAL*

The appeal of George Cristoff, con. ductor, against his wrongful dismissal from the service, was continued at the S.M. Court, before Mr. E. C. Cutten, SAL, and representatives of the union and the corporation yesterday. Mr. S. Mackay, traffic manager of the Auckland Electric Tramways, was first called. He stated that he was on the car in question, sitting just inside the front compartment, with his back to the partition next to the passage. At Stanley Street a number of men rose in the front of the compartment. The first of these men stood with his hand upon the partition, and handed the conductor a silver coin, saying "Two." The conductor then gave him some change, and the two of them then got off the front. A third • handed the conductor a penny and <*ot off the front also. None of them had received tickets. Four other men got up walked towards the front of the car, and after hesitation got off without paying. Appellant did not tear off the three tickets for the fares paid until spoken to by witness. Witness asked, "Are you in the habit of eloing this sort of thing?" Appellant said "No." Under cross-examination by Mr. Moody witness stated that appellant was dismissed the day before his case was discussed at a conference with Mr. Walk, late, himself, the union officials, and the appellant. After this Mr. Walklate and witness met, and it was decided to up- s hold the dismissal. Witness described the three men who paid, but gave as his reason for not taking their names as there was a clear case against, the conductor. Hearing evidence in the tramway appeal case was continued in the AuxiHary Courtroom to-day, witnesses beinjr called on behalf of Appellant. °
