THE HOUSING PROBLEM.
DEMAND FOR ACTION. LABOUR PARTY RESOLUTIONS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The urgency of the housing, problem in the Dominion was emphasised at a ■public meeting 'held in the Town Hall under the auspices of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee.
On the motion of Mr. P. Eraser, M.P., the following motion was carried unanimously:—"This meeting of Wellington citizens calls upon the Government to immediately address itself to the problem of housing the people of the Dominion It affirms that the overcrowding and general housing conditions in Wellington and many other portions of the country are a standing disgrace and reproach to Governments of the last decade. In view of the fact that the Liberal leader, Sir Joseph Ward, has stated that houses can be provided at 10/G week, and that four millions pounds 6hould be voted for this purpose, this meeting considers a comprehensive Dominion housing scheme should be embarked upon without delay. Tt also a*ks that, in the meantime, until sufficient houses are provided to meet the requirements of the population, that section of the War Regulation and Statute Amendment Act of 1918 session of Parliament, which prevents the ejection of a soldier, discharged soldier, or the wife or widow of a soldier, or a discharged soldier, should be applied to all householders."
