Baron Goto, in an article in the "Pali Mall Gazette," pleads for closer AngloJapanese understanding. He urges British journalists to visit Japan more frequently and study the real conditions, He touches significantly on trade competition, and says the day has arrived when Japan and Britain can compete fairly and justly like friends playing a chess competition. They must aim at a fair and equal distribution of wealth.
He argues that as Japanese settlers benefit California, rt is needless for America to urge their repatriation.— (United Service.)
DECLINING COAL OUTPUT. SHORTAGE OF 2,000,000 TONS A WEEK. (Received 2.50 p.m.) LOXDOX, September 3. The Board of Trade published statistics showing the declining output of coal. The fall lias averaged over two million tons weekly since April, owing to shortened hours and strikes.— (United Service.)
DAVIS CUP TEAM.
