THE TAKAPUNA TRAMS.

. (To the Editor.) Sir, —I think Mr. Wilson has rather misunderstood the action of the directors in issuing the new time-table of the Takapuna trams. It is inconceivable ; that they should be actuated either by | any feelings of resentment or any sordid | desire to increase dividends at the ex- ! pense of the public. I think it is more j correct to say that they are seeking t nothing but our good. Hurry is one of ' the most prolific causes of many modern j diseases. Appendicitis, melanotic earj coma, and even aneurism of the ascendi ing aorta, are all a"scribed to the bad I effects of hurry and the use of enamel j pots. The latter the directors are j powerless to prevent; the- former they can and do prevent. The husiness man, instead of being hurried to his office by the shortest route, is to be taken for a . trip round the scenery of the i lake at an extra cost that is .trifling compared with doctors' bills. School children are to "be encouraged to walk to school, or else by taking an earlier car to have an hour's healthy exercise in the playground 'before school commences. No one can. say in this the directors are looking for extra dividends. ■As regards late cars, surely it is better for the people to spend their evenings at home instead of in the vitiated atmosphere of some overcrowded place of amusement. Fewer people will travel, and dividends will be entailer, "jut the directors will foe rewarded by noting the increased health and improved moral tone of the community. Instead of offering some patent medicine they refer us to the old prescription, "solvitur ambulano"—do more walking.—l am, , etc., CLAUDIUS.
