THE ADMIRAL'S VISIT.
A •CHANGE IN DATE. RE-AiRRANGEJIENT OF PROG-RAMME Advice was received from Christehurch yesterday evening that H.M.S. New Zealand, with Lord Jellicoe, would not reach Auckland on September 21, as had been intended, but would arrive on the even : ing of September 22. This means that the Auckland programme of welcome and entertainment to the Admiral, the officers and crew of the battleship will have to be re-arranged, as it has been based on the arrival of the ship here on Sunday, September 21. Mr. V. TJ. Wilson, who is accompanying the Admiral on behalf of the N.Z. Tourist Department, in advising the Deputy-Mayor of the change in date of arrival, suggested that the arrangements made for Monday (September 22) should be carried out on Tuesday, and that the following, Which had been approved by the Admiral, should be the programme:—
Tuesday, September 23. —Civic and Harbour Board receptions in the morning; veterans' visit, with address, and Victoria League "At Home" to Lady .Tellicoe in -afternoon; citizens' ball at night.
Wednesday, September 24.—Inspection of Calliope Dock and unveiling of Sanders memorial in morning; "At Home" at the Auckland Club in the afternoon; naval and military and garrison officers' ball in the evening.
Thursday, September 25. -r- Garden party by Missions to Seamen in afternoon; evening free. Thursday, October 2.—Northern Club ball.
Commenting on the changed programme, Mr. Wilson, in his tclejrram, states:—"lt appears that most of the other functions proposed will have to be abandoned, so far as Admirai and Lady Jellicoe are concerned. The invitation for officers and men to the Avondale races on Saturday. iSeptembe/ 27, will remain a fixture. The Admiral will be in Auckland on October 2 nnd 3, and will leave on the evening of the latter date."
The Deputy-Mayor (Mr. A. J. Entrican) has callod a meeting of the executive of the Citizens' Committee for this afternoon to discuss the position, with a view to discussing the change in the programme.
THE TAKAPUNA FUNCTION. A special meeting of ratepayers, presided over by the Mayor (Mr. W. Blomfield), was held in the Council Chambers at Takapuna last evening to make arrangements for the entertainment of Admiral Jellicoe when he visits Takapuna for the purpose of unveiling the Sanders Memorial. Several committees were set up, and offers of assistance were received from, the Ratepayers' Association.
The latter body, at a meeting last evening, to discuss the tramway service, passed a resolution pledging 6upportof any arrangements made by the Borough Council.
