COMMITTED FOR TRIAL
DEVONPORT ASSAULT CASH. The hearing of the charge against J. Eric Broadhurst Stokoe (24) that on August 22 he committed rape on a girl of nine years at Devonport, was con? tinued before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., yesterday afternoon. Evidence was given as to accused having returned home late on the night in question, and that when he was seen by Detective Cummings three days later about the complaint he replied that he had no recollection of it, as he had "had a tiff with his girl that night and hud a good few drinks."
Accused, who pleaded "not guilty," was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed in one surety of £300.
