POLICE COURT.
( Before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M.) MISS LW.W. '"She simply won't work," was the character given Ursula Moriarty (IS), who admitted a charge of vagrancy. The sub-inspector stated that the" girl's mother was lead and her father was a respectable man, who had done his best for her, but had found her incorrigibly la/.y. Situations were found for her, but she would not keep them for more than a few days. Recently she had taken to staying out late and associating with undesirable men about the waterfront. Eventually the police were appealed to, and she was found out from home at a late hour. It was the wish of her father, and of the girl herself, that she should go to Mt. Magdala Home in Christchurch.
After ascertaining from the girl that she was willing to go to the home, his Worship convicted and ordered her to tome up for sentence wheu called on, with the condition that she should go to Mt. Magdala Home. MISCELLANEOUS. "She was found wandering in Princes Street late at night and suffering from the effects of drink." stated the subinspector of Elizabeth Martin (57), w*iio was charged with having been found in a state of helpless drunkenness, and was remanded for a week for medical treatment. The only other drunkenness case was that of James Butcher (3S), up for the second time recently, who was fined 10/. John Brown (35), on a charge of having obtained 30/ by means of false pretences by paying for a. shave with a valueless cheque for £2, was convicted, and discharged, the offence having been one of a series of others for which he had been sentenced.
