PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS. NEW SUPERINTENDENT FOR AUCKLAND. (Bj Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, iionday. The following promotion* and trunefere in th« police force have .been announced: — ln.-pector McOrath, of Napier, has boon promoted superintendent, and will take charge of the Dunedin district in place of Superintendent Wright, who takes the position vacated by (superintendent N. Kiely (retired), "at Auckland. Inspector Marsack, Wellington, will be transferred to Napier. Siilj-Inspectors lirobere and Mcllveney have been promoted inspectors, and trill remain at Wellington at present. A new district hits been created at Timnrii, in-eluding the surrounding stations, and will lie conducted by (SubInspector Hastie, who has be<?n promoted to the rank of inspector. Se-nior-Serpeant Kinenson, Wellington, has been promoted sub-insppctor, fillinp the position vacated by Inspector Mcllvoney, who takes the position vacated liy Inspector Marsack.

He i≤ an official of the finest and, rarest type, urbane a-nd .tactful, with great capacity for work, a talent for directing men, and the rarer one of imbuing them w:t.h his own high ideal of duty, ile is an EngLit-h----man. a native of the Cathedral City of Gloucester, and come out to New Zealand in IS7G, landing in Otngo. lie joined the police at Wellington in ISS2, and, after a few months' .service there, wae transferred to lnverearglll as district clerk. There die remained until 1891, and was then transferred to Dunedin. At the end of two years he was recalled to Wellington as " district clerk, a.n<l in JDOo was assigned to the post of chief clerk and accountant in the Commissioner's oflicc. hi 1910 he was placed in oharge <'f the Thames district, and upon the enlargement of that district by it<s inclusion in Waikato and King Country, he took charge of his new district known a-s Hamilton. He was transferred to Dunedin as superintendent in November, 1915.
