Rising prices and scarcity of houses are causing widespread discontent, especially among tho middl« > classes, and serious outbreaks arc feared. The policedispersed mass meetings of teachers in several towns when protesting .-.gainst j inadequate salaries. A newly formed j Salaried Men's Union in Tokyo demands that profits, exclusive of bank interest lon capital, shall be equally divided bc!tween employers and workers.
