EimjJING BOUGHT FOR £12,500 I BY WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. 1 Premises for <a permanent Soldiers* Club have been secured by the Auckland Patriotic Association and the Auckland Women's Patriotic League. The property is a warehouse building at the corner of Albert and Swanson Streets, and is at present occupied by Buchanan and Co., manufacturing jewellers. It has a frontage of approximately 50ft to each street, and consists of three storeys and a ba-ement, while according to expert advice, the walls are strong enough to carry two more storeys if necessary. The purcha.se price is £12/iOO. Plans for re- . fitting the building are being prepared by Mr. K. \V. Aimer, architect (a returned soldier). It is intended to provide billiard, smoking, reading, writing, and committee rooms, a luncheon room for 100 men, bedrooms fur not less than 50 men. a suite or offices for the Returned Soldiers' Association, and quarters for a caretaker. The present club quarters at the V.M.C.A. will have to be vacated shirtly. as the tenancy expires in October. It is expected that two floors of the now building , will be ready for occupation by that time. The establishment of a. permanent club has iH'eu made possible by a decision of the Women's Patriotic League to transfer 11.5.n00 of its funds to the credit of the Patriotic Association's "B" fund, for use in the direction mentioned. The transfer has received the approval of the (Government, which would not agree to any of the Patriotic Association's '"A" fund used for the purpose. The Women's Patriotic League was able to make the jrrant from its accumulated funds because its work for soldiers abroad had almost come to an end. The Patriotic Association will contribute to the relittins and furnishing of the newclub. " ,
