SUNDAY CONCERTS,

PERAHT GRAXTED. Finality yyus reached by the City Council last night on the question whether sacred concerts, lectures, and such functions should be permitted on Sunday evenings. The application of the United Federation of Labour to hold a series of gatherings ou Sunday nights was considered favourably by the Finance and Legal Committee, and acting on their recommendation the Council granted a permit for three months, provided that eight o'clock be made the opening hour. Mr. Bloodwortb. YY-anted the hour of opening made seven o'clock, but the general feeling of the Council was quite in accord with Mr. Entrican's expressed remark that the decision was "a sort of revolution with the hint implied, of course, that anything like that should be gradual." However, the councillors were with Mr. Bloodwortb, too, and his motion was finally defeated on the Deputy-Mayor's casting vote.
