The business of the Supreme Court to-day was restricted to matters taken ill chambers by Mr. Justice Chapman. To-morrow morning his Honor will deal with a number of undefended divorce petitions, and on Monday the last case on the criminal list, Rex. v. Trosser. a charge of causing actual bodily harm, will be heard. .Steel's Hall. Birkenhead, was crowded to the doors on Wednesday night, when sailors from the three mine-sweepers were entertained by the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen, at a dance and social, organised by Mr. Arthur P. Cowie, Missioner to Seamen. A delightful supper was provided by visiting ladies, in addition to valuable support given in this respect by the ladies of Birkenhead. In opening the proceedings Mr. Cowie said that just as the sailors had swept the seas of mines, so the Mission hoped to sweep the evening of cares, and all hoped that the evening would prove clear sailing. The large number of seamen stated their great appreciation of the _;o_d time given to them by the organisers. A local orchestra gave "reat .ati-faction with the music. I
