THE NEW PROGRESSIVES.

iGXTIESCENT, BUT AIERT. EARLY BUSINESS MEETIXG. ' A prominent member oi tho new Pvo- . gressive movement, when uestioned on Ithe party's organisation and general pre-I paredness for the hurry-scurry election ! campaign in prospect, stated that for the last two months there had been practically nothing doing. Xo meetings had been held, and no views exchanged among I the different members of Parliament and their political friends who arc numbered among the ranks of the Progressive I party. "It goes without saying, therefore." remarked the member in question, ""that there has been nothing in the | shape of organisation work carried out, and that so far as !«-ing a campaign i force is concerned, we arc not yet in | the field.'' He added, however, that if necessary the organisation could very qtiickly Lake the field both with men and ! programme. Much would depend upon what transpired when the members of the party met in Wellington. It was quite possible that then- would be something doing as soon as the supporters of the Progressive movement came tog-other and talked things over. The announcement made by the Liberal leader and the publication of the Liberal policy programme opened the way, he acroed. to all manner of political possibilities within the next few week.
