S.M.. at the Police Court to-day. Mr. Dickson appeared for Chan., and stated that it was with diffidence that he brought the matter forward, lie iva« against encouraging any boy to defend a case. If he went to the Supreme Court, and " got off" il might mean him embarking upon a career of crime. lie was only seventeen years of age. and had peculiar tendencies The life he had been living was not a very desirable one. It was hi* "first time" before the Court, and consequently he was without any previous convictions. Detective-Sergt. Hammond, on behalf of the police, said that the town life did not tit in well with Chan's temperament. lie was a bad-tempered young fellow, and associated with larrikins. The revolvers had been recovered, but there was nothing to show how he had disposed of them. He thought a market, garden a very lit place for accused to he sent to. He would then be away from the city, and not in n position to meet his pals at night, which would be particularly desirable, lor it wa- after working hours that he got into mischief. The Probation nilicer. Mr. .lefTries. recommended that Chan should be placed on probation, conditional upon his observing certain instructions he suggested in respect to employment, hours, etc.

The Magistrate admitted Chan to probation for three years on tho conditions as outlined by the Probation Officer.
