The members of the German National Assembly representing Silesia telegraphed that the strikers were destroying the coal mines in Upper Silesia. The Peace Conference thereupon decided to dispatch a commission to report on the situation. Warsaw telegrams state that the Polish rising in Upper Silesia continues to spread. The strikers captured various centres and disarmed the frontier defence force. The railways have stopped. The present events are the outcome of a deliberate German policy of opposition to and provocation of the Poles.- —('"Times.") STRIKE MOVEMENT SPREADS. DEMANDS OF THE WORKMEN. LOXDOX, August 20. The strike movement in Upper Silesia is spreading. Ninety per cent of the workmen are idle. Riots have broken out. The demands of the workmen include abolition of the state of siege and the reopening of the frontiers to prevent famine. Allied military occupation of Upper Silesia is probable, as the Supreme Council have asked the army leaders to take steps to remedy the instability of the situation. —■ (Reuter.) Polish revolts in Upper Silesia are spreading. The "'Local Anzeiger" of Berlin attributes the outbreak to Polish fears for the result of the forthcoming vote regarding the future of this territory.
