BROOKES' FINE PLAY
IN AMERICAN TENNIS DOUBLES (Received 9.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 20. According to the Boston correspondent, of the "New York Times," Tilden and j Brookes played the best games in the ! match in' which Brookes and Patterson I won the national doubles championship | from Tilden and Richards. Brookes was ! as steady as a rock, and made only twenty errors, while he scored 28 pointe. Tilden, who played the speediest game seen for many seasons, made 01 errors and scored 61~ points. Richards, who is called the American boy phenomenon, was the weakest member of the quartet. Patterson played less spectacularly than heretofore, and was surprisingly steady, though at times outgeneral led. The Australian tennis players will participate in the national singles championships at Forest Hiils, New York", beginning on August 25. — (A. and N.Z.)
