DIMINISHING WATERS.
NORTH SHORE STTFPLT. V The water situation in the North Shore boroughs threaten* to become icute again this Eiunmer, and in conse- . juenec of a considerable fall in the level r if Lake Takapuna, a conference to disc russ possibilities of augmenting the -j supply has be*h suggested. t The mutter cropped up at a meeting s of the Takapttrra Borough Council met , evening, when the PuWie Serricee Com- ¥ mittee recommended that each of the boroughs using Lake Takapuna as a f water supply be asked to send two representatives to a conference to be held j on September 16th, 1819, in the Cham- t ber of Commerce, Auckland, to discuss t the question of the future water supply * for the North Shore -boroughs. c The Mayor (Mr. W. Blomflcld) stated , that a large quantity of data on the , subject of auxiliary supplies had been collected hj the Board of Control, and the Marine 'Bodies Association, and the . new Councils should carry on the work and bring it to finality. Takapuna had greater cause of anxiety than any of the other boroughs, inasmuch as the borough population was rapidly increasing, de- , spite tfie handicaps under which it laboured. A suggestion now made by the Streets and Works Committee was that caeli house should have a tank as an additional supply; whether the other boroughs would follow suit remained to be seen. The water trouble was accentuated by the growing necessity for drainage, and a system could not 'be installed until there wns an auxiliary supply of water. Hence the suggestion that the representatives of the boroughs affected should meet in conference was very timely. Council appointed the Mayor and Mr. •T?. Davies delcgatea to the conference, and the Streets and Works Committee's recommendation that, in view of the large number of house now being erected in the borj ough, some action should be taken to ! endeavour to conserve the water supply by insisting on t'ue provision of tank». was endorsed, i
