MANAGEMENT MATTERS. The usual weekly meeting of the Auckland League was held last night, Mr. J. Carlaw presiding. ♦ T'le l'onsonb.v Club asked a loan of £6S to liquidate a delit incurred through its trip to Ohristchurch to win the Thucker Shield l»Ht seuHon, they expecting to μ-ain finances to cover this liability by the shield match in Auckland this season, but that tirthre cannot be arranged for this football year. It. was resolved to refer the request back-to I lie flub for advancement to the New Zealand Conference, which w-us deemed to be the proper body to consider the request The Waikato LenKUe intimated thitt owing to the difficulties of train- travelling they were unable to send a team to play in Auckland on Saturday next. The views of the deputation representative of the Junior Advisory Board inclined to the idea Hint the powers grunted to the Hoard by the League under the present system ot things were insufficient. The three people who waited on the League brought forwurd .several specific instances where their Board considered that its authority had l>een overruled by the governing body without sufficient reasons bplng given. In fact, they considered themselves to have been sllg-hted more or less, mid they asked, on behalf of the Board, for greater scope, submitting that, their authority under the League (should be analogous to that enjoyed by the Auckland League under the New Zealand body. To meet this complaint, which the delegates apparently thought more or less justified, the resolution was carried to the effect that a notice of nun ion l)c tabled at the next meeting giving the Advisory Board the more complete powers they need, offering the League at the same tline as a body to consider appeals of clubs who might be dissatisfied with the Hoards rulings. THK AUSTRALIAN VISIT. At'CKLAXI) OI"T FOR A WIN. In view of the visit of the Australian team a special effort Is being made locally to give the tourists the game of their liven when they meet the Auckland team. Opinions have been expressed by local critics who have seen the Australians in action on their own turf that a well-selected New Zealand team should have a good chance of defeating the visitors, unci that in Auckland a team could be chosen ivhicn, haviug the advantage of being intimately acquainted witli the others play, would score a win over* a New Zealand team. Hence the hope thai, whatever may befall New Zealand ngulnst Australia, the Auckland team will provide a football Waterloo for tile Australians. and a joyful surprise for the local public. This 1.1.-a occasioned a deputation to the Auckland League management Committee hist night from the Auckland selectors, who i>iit n proposlt lnn that met with the approval of the meeting. It was in reference to the .■..tiling control between Auckland and the Australian team, the suggestion of the deputation being thai thirteen Auckland players who have all been New Zealand reps! should meet thirteen other; Auckland reps, and make a game of it next Saturday. August I.S. As mentioned, the committee approved tin- proposal, mid decided w> put ou the trial match ou Saturday lit Victoria Park, and thereafter to arrange that the team chosen to represent Auckland against Australia ou September -it should be sent away for a weeks traiuing prior to the game, with Mr. 11.
