WHAKATANE HOSPITAL.
DISPUTE RE SITE. DECIDED BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph.—Owu Corresponaentji WHAKATAXE. this day. The Minister of Public Health (the Hon. (J. \V. Russell) lirnily refuses tv sanction Webster's Hill -as "the site for the projected Whaicatane District Hospital. The following conrniiHiication was received from him this morning by the secretary of the Wlialoitane Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. Mitchell Daxgie: "With reference to correspondence wibien has taken place with your chamber eoncexning the establishment of a hospital in WliaJcatane and the agitation .that has arisen in connection with the selection of a site therefor. I have to inform you that this matter 3ia= received the most careful consideration of myself and the medical officers of the Health Department, and I propose to fitaud by their ireoommendations a≤ to the. most suitable site available in the district for the purpose of a hospital. The site recommended by the medical officers is that known as Kirk's, in Whakatane borough. A communication has recently been received torn the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board, asking tor my approval for the erection of a hospital on Wehster's Hill. I propose to inform the-. Board that I cannot see my way clear to'give this request approval, as I consider the. erection of the institution should he proceeded with on the site known as Kirk's, which was previously chosen by the Department."
