SYDNEY, AugUKt 1!>. The annual report of the railways shows a delicit for the year of £li)»,:Ui!t. The report stresses the necessity for resuming: constructional work on the Sydney railway, which had been suspended since Juno last year. Within a very short period, states the report, the present facilities will absolutely fail to deal with the city's requirements. The rejiort shdws increases in the waffi'B sheet during the year amounting to £81,554 as a result of various industrial awards. The Chief Commissioner, in reviewing the position of the railways, sounded a serious note of warning. <'v top of increased expenditure, he said, there was decreasing production. Since 1014 the tonnage handled on tho railways had pone l>ackwards. The ]x>pulation had increased, but production per head had fallen.—(A. and N.Z. (able.)
