QUALITY OF CHLOROFORM
HOSPITAL BOARD DISCUSSION. SEQUEL TO AN INQUEST. At last evening's meeting of the Hospital Board, llr. SI. J. Savage mentioned that the newspapers had referred to a number of deaths which had taken place at the hospital during the month of July. The report stated, declared the speaker, that for a considerable time past no good English chloroform had been procurable. He would like to know the brands of chloroform that were being used in the hospital, and whether the statement was true.
Dr. Maguire replied that the chloroform was the best in the world. It was manufactured at .Edinburgh. It was beyond reproach, and had been on the market ever since there was chloroform. In reply to a cfjestion asked by Mr. Coyle, Dr. Maguire said that there was no*truth in the statement that inferior anaesthetics were being used at the hospital. About 3,500 annesthetic cases were treated annually in the hospital. With this the discussion ceased.
