IMPORTERS' ORJECTIONS.
The fruit importers of Auckland have decided to send a representative to Wellington to interview -the Prime Minister f Rt. Hon. W. 2. Massey, and members of Cabinet in connection with the alleged unsatisfactory method- adopted hy ,fche Administrator in the Cook Islands (Mr. Platts), and to arrange with the Government for some more satisfactory method of inspecting .the fruit from Rarotonga. A_ the present time the fruit is passed for shipment at Rarotonga, hy ■persons in the employ of the New Zea. land Government, and again on arrival at .Auckland. "When, considering the fact that Rai-otonga is controlled from Now Zealand, and the fruit fly for which the inspection is made has _«en proved not to exist in New Zealand, it is considered t-iat ithe double inspection is quite unnecessary, as it puts fully 25 per cent on to the soiling cost of the fruit," was the statement this morning of a leading city importer.
