AUSTRALIAN NAVY.

LORD JELLICOE'S REPORT.

A COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME.

LINK WITH NEW ZEALAND.

(By Cable.-_ress Association.—Copyright.)

(Received 12.5 p.m.)

MELBOURNE .this day.

It is understood that a copy" of Admiral Jellicoe's report was placed in Mr. Watts' hands before the Admiral departed for Xew Zealand. There is little doubt that his findings will be big and definite. It is practically certain that he will recommend more and bigger naval bases than at present exist here. It is also believed that he urges tlie necessity for Australia having at least otic first-class battleship?

Amongst other questions discussed would be the question of naval organisation, under which it is hoped to link Australia with Xew Zealand. Canada, India, and perhaps South Africa in a. comprehensive scheme for the defence of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
