The coalminers' representatives yesterday rejected the oiler made to them by the mine owners. Mr. .Massey is of opinion that New Zealand will require about 100,000 tons of phosphates from Nauru Island yearly. Official figures show that the cost of living in New Zealand since July, 1914, in foodstuffs alone has been 42.50 per cent. Kolchak lias been driven back 800 miles by the Bolshevist forces opposed to him. He is outnumbered five to one. The Russians in the Archangel area have made a strong appeal to the Allies against throwing them to the Bolshevist wolves. The steamer Pateena collided severely with Onehunga wharf this morning, wrecked part of the tee, and herselt sustained considerable damage. In a new set of counter proposals, tho coalminers ask for equal wages for all mine workers except those on the face, for whom a 25 per cent increase is asked. The Prime Minister denies that there have been any negotiations with the Admiralty with a view to the formation of a naval squadron on the New Zealand station. At a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association executive last night possible secession from the New Zealand body was discussed with a good deal of candour.
