BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTE.
AMALGAMATION AND RESERVE. The report of the recent conference of the Rlrkenhead and Northcote Councils was before the Northcote Borough Council last night. FERRY TIME-TABLE. The recommendation that a rennest be preferred to the Devonport Ferry Cmnpnnr to run a half-hourly ferry service between Auckland and Northcote an.l Birkenhead throughout the evening was unanimously adopted on the motion of Crs. Stewart and Roberts. •EXTENSION OF BOROUGH ROtTXDARIES. Tn order that tho boronghs should form one continuous area, and thus remove the legal difficulty of taking a poll upon amalgamation, the conference recommended that Little Shoal Bay reserve (owned Jolntlv by both boroughs) should be Included within the boundaries of Rirkenhead. both boroughs equally sharing the cost Involved in the extension of that borough's boundaries. The adoption of this recommendation was moved by i'r. T). R. Davies aud seconded by I'r. \Y. K. A. Stewart. The Mayor Mr. A. E. Greonslade'l moved as an amendment, and Cr. R. Birch seconded. "That the Birkenhead Connell be informed that. In the opinion of this Council. Ihe reserve should he included within the boundaries of the Northcote borough, which Ls prepared to -pay the legal costs of such extensioii." Upon a division this amendment was lost by five to three, the Mayor and Crs. Birch and W. Spence voting in favour, and Crs J. Aspdon. \V. p. Roberts. W. X A Stewart. D. R. levies and \V. 12. Fvichar.lson against, the latter pnlnting out that he would require some grave" reason before going back on any resolution passed by the conference. The (Mayor said he looked noon the reserve as the "front door" to Northcote property, and therefore should naturally be placed in Northcote borough. A further amendment, proposed by Crs Roberts and Birch. "That the matter he referred to the next conference for reconsideration." was supported by the Mayor and Cr. Spence, and eveittuauv carried" on the casting, vote of the Mnvor/those voting against being Crs. Stewart. Aspdon. Davies and Richardson. The mover sai-d be did not like going back on resolutions adopted at the conference, and therefore preferred to see the question reopened, as he personally viewed the matter now- in a somewhat different light since tho conference. AMALGAMATION. The Council unanimously adopted the recommendation iitlinnlng tiie rtesinihility of amalgamating the two boroughs, provided the conditions prove acceptable to botn Councils, and supported the appointment of a committee to submit a report to a further conference, after collating all data possible concerning amalgamalion. RESER VK AI I'M I XISTR ATION. The proposal that the administration of the reserve remain as prior to ihe last Borough Council elections, and that a conference 'be convened at an early date to lav down a policy for the administrtulon of the reserve such policy to Ik- nil Wed by each Council, was adopted on the motion of Crs. Davies and Richardson, after nn amendment by Cr. Birch and tho "Mayor in favour of forming a reserve board, was put and lost. 'Crs. .Stewart. Roberts. Spence. As-pden and Lyon were appointed to represent the Northcote Council to act in conjunction with a similar committee appointed by the 'Birkenhead Council.
