The annu.il meeting of tho Matamata Racing Club attracted a good attendance of members, over which the president, Mr. J. Price presided. Tie annual report stated that the affairs of the club were lv a distinctly healthy state. A hold policy was .adopted ~.at the outset.- by undertaking at a very short | notice the holding of a meeting and giving 1 JLIoO in stakes. This policy met with the approval and strong support of sportsmen'! lv the district, aud throughout the province, with the result that the protlts, including donations from about five months' operations were in the Vicinity of iJIMo. The committee tenders to Mr. T. Boltomley, 1 who, at the last moment, placed his property at the club's disposal a hearty vote of thanks. The Matamata Cup prize was added to appreciably by a splendid donation of a £15 W cup by Messrs. -Haiupson aud Bell, and these two gentlemen also doJiated a whip to the jockey. A cup and whip for next season lias been kindly donated by Messrs. Finuerty and Darby. After the race meet lug the fact was forcibly brought home tv the committee that the question of the purchase of 11 course would have to bo considered, and ll ir. pleasing 10 be able to elate that after full deliberations, a general meeting endorsed the special committee's selection of !>4 ucres of Mr. E.
