It is unofficially reported that the Government is conceding the four main points of the seamen's claims, but has refused to release Walsh, the imprisoned secretary, until work is resumed. It is also reported that the Seamen's Council has recommended resumption on these terms.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) EFFECT OF THE STRIKE. SUGAR GROWERS' HEAVY LOSSES. (Received 10.35 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. The Cane Growers' Association reports that owing to the absence of sugar sacks, which are not procurable as a result of the seamen's strike, the mills are unable to operate. Crops at Ayr, in the lower North Burdekin district, are rapidly dying, and many growers are faced with ruination.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
