' "THE SILVER KING." A large audience watched the final presentation of this sterling melodrama last evening by the Allan Wilkie Company*- at His (Majesty's Theatre. To-night its rumblings will give place to the merry nonsense of ".She Stoops to Conquer." It Is some years since this classic received, a. professional -rendering,. and. amateur exponents will doubtless be interested in having their shortcomings revealed to them. Mr. WUMe is to appear as Mr. Hardcastle, the country squire -who loves everything old- Miss Hunter-Watts should -be admirably placed as the rustic coquette. Kate Hardcastle. An excellent opportunity will be given to the portraycr of the irresistible Tony Lumpkin, presumably -Mr. Henri Dore. ORGAN RECITAL. A varied and attractive programme has I been arranged for the organ recital In the I Town Hall to-night. Of special interest I will be the first performance of the slow : . movement from a new-organ sonata by Dr. ■Hathaway, an English musician at present .in : Auckland. Other organ solos will consist of works by Vierne, Schubert, and Holloway. Mr Hubert E. Carter will be j the vocalist, I HOCKEY ASSOCIATION CONCERT. !A fine programme has Been arranged for the Auckland Hockey Association concert, to be held in the large Town Hall on Thursday, August 14. Vocal items will be rendered by Misses 1-anra Stone and Lambert .and Messrs. Fred. Eourke. HRlchards, and the Lyric Quartet. The Albert Symphony Orchestra will play selections. Mt. H. Baxter and Mr. XI. Adams will render instrumental items, and mono- ; lognes and recitations by Miss Zoe Baxtley ; and - Messrs., Allan McElwain and Tom Harris will complete the programme. ' Tickets may be reserved at Whltcombe 1 and Tombs. SCOTT'S ANNTVEBSABY. The Sir Walter Scott anniversary concert, which -has been organised by the' St. Andrew's Society, wul take place on August IS, in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. A good programme has been arranged, and the foUowing artists have been engaged:— Miss Ailsa Lewis (soprano). Miss Jessie Bartlett (contralto), Mr. # H. W- Jessop (tenor), Mr. Charles Hnnter (baritone), Mr. Whightman McCombe (humorist), and Master and Miss McLachlan (dancers). The J. W. Shaw wul deliver the anniversary address.
