BURGLARY AT NEWTON.
BOYS WITH KEVOITTERS. ARRESTED AS SUSPECTS. -An arrest of a youth, who carried a .revolver and a flashlight, was made at the back of RendelTs, Ltd., business premises about 0.15 p.m. on Saturday, I and another youth was surprised inside the building, but escaped. A lad, believed to be the latter, was .arrested early on Sunday morning at his home, ' and he, too, possessed a revolver and a : flashlight. The lad arrested on Saturday night was Robert Thomas Cook , (16), and the other youth was James Montrose Sutherland (16). The arrests were the result of Ren- ', dell's, Ltd., having been kept under observation at night by the police, in consequence of indications that an attempt . had been made to enter the premises on Thursday night. Constables Castles and Burn, in the course of their surveillance, ( paid a visit to the back of the j building on Saturday night, and; etirprised the youth near the back); entrance to the building. His ex-1 ] planations were not satisfactory, and < he was arrested and found to be" in pos-!< cession of a revolver, torch, and a pair of J ) rubber gloves. A signal put other i members of the Newton force on the < alert, and tae building was surrounded, and was entered and searched when Mr. Rendell had been summoned. It was found that jyi upper window.' had been left open, and there were indications that someone had departed that way, and had escaped over the roof of an adjoining bniiding, getting to the street some distance away. The police veriaed sus- i picions of the identity of the man theylj were after, and made arrangements! accordingly, with the result.that about , ttiree o'clock on Sunday morning Con- ] stable Burn arrested Sutherland at his i home. Both boys came before Mr. .T. E. Wilson, S.H.. on charges of having at- ' tempted to break and enter the premises f on Thursday, and of having broken and entered them on Saturday, while Cook \ was farther charged with having carried a a loaded revolver. They were remanded till Thursday, bail being allowed in each \ case in a surety of £100; with a condition \ that accused should report daily to the police. T
