ADMIRAL JELLICOE'S VISIT.

DANGER OF OVERLAPPING. THE CITIZENS' BALL. Discussion took place last evening at the annual meeting of the Auckland Garrison Officers' Club in connection with the entertainment of Admiral Jellicoe on his visit to Auckland. An invitation had been tendered by the club to the Admiral and his suite to be present at a ball which they intended to give, and the Admiral had signified his acceptance of their invitation. A difficulty had now arisen in that the entertainment would probably interfere with the function to be given by the citizens. The fact remained that an invitation has been given and accepted, and it was therefore absolutely necessary that the ball be held by the club. Mr. A. G. Lunn, a member of the Citizens' Entertainment Committee, said that no competition was desired between the Citizens' Committee and that of the club, hut on account of the very short time which the Admiral would probably spend in Auckland, and the number and variety of the entertainments proposed in his honour, he thought it desirable that the club give a ball in conjunction with the Citizens' Committee. The invitations could be issued in the name of the citizens and of the club, and thus the club would thus be fulfilling its proffered hospHality. There would be no loss of prestige on the part of the club. The combined committee could undertake the, full financial responsibility for tho function. Mr. Lunn cited the action of the Navy League as a precedent. They had desired to entertain Lord Jellicoe in a special fashion, but on account of the numerous functions provided decided to relinquish their undoubted claim on his time, and to co-operate with the Citizens' Committee. It was suggested that the club ask the Citizens Committee to waive their own entertainment and to allow the club to give the ball. Eventually it was resolved to give a complimentary naval and military ball to the Admiral, and not to combine with the Citizens' Committee.
