CONTROL OF THE NAVY. MELBOURNE, this day. In the House of Representatives Mr. Poynton announced that the navy reverts to the control of the Commonwealth in August.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) NOT ENOUGH. HOBART, this day. In the Assembly the bill increasing members' salaries to £250 was postponed, on the motion of the Leader of the Opposition, in order to increase the amount to £300.—(A. and N.Z. MILLIONS FOR WOOL. MELBOURNE, this day. The Wool Committee has announced that it is distributinjp£6,ooo,ooo amongst producers during the "next month. The total amount received from Britain is £122,000,000.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
SIR SIMON ERASER DEAD. MELBOURNE, this day. The death is announced of Sir Simon Frasor, the well-known politician.—(A. and N.Z, Cable.) Sir Simon Fraser was born in Nova Scotia 87 years ago, and went to Australia in his youth, engaging in pastoral pursuits. He was elected to the Victorian Assembly in 1874, was a member of the convention which framed the Federal constitution, and was returned at the head of the State poll at the first Senate elections in Victoria.
