ANGLICAN SYNOD.

TO-DAYS TROCEEDrXCS. The third session of the twenty-second Anglican Synod of the diocese of Auckland was continued to-day, under the presidency of the Bishop of Auckland (Rt. Rev. Dr. A. W. Averill). Eloquent and earnest tributes to the work of the late Mr. W. J. Speight -were paid by members of Synod when Mr. C. J. Tunks moved a resolution expressing high appreciation of the noble character and useful life of Mr. Speight, and recording his splendid services on behalf of the diocesan pension fund, the diocesan insurance scheme, and numerous other departments of Church work. The motion was carried by the Synod rising. On the motion of Archdeacon Mac Murray, seconded by Mr. Norman Williams, the Synod recorded its sense of loss by the death of Mr. John Batger, for 30 years a member of the Synod, for 27 years a member of the General Trust Board, and for several years secretary of St. Mary's Home Committee. Synod expressed its deep sympathy with the Rev. H. Warwick Smith in hia illness, on the motion of the Yen. Archdeacon Cowie, and passed a resolution of welcome to the Rev. W. Bullock, C.F.. who has arrived to take up the position of organising secretary of the C.E.M.S. THE TARANAKI BISHOPRIC. The proposed new diocose for Taranaki was further discussed, on the revised motion brought forward by thf Rev. F. G. Harvio, constituting , the licensed clergy and two laymen from ! every parish and district the Auckland ■' representation on the Taranaki Bishopru ■ Scheme. Speakers supporting the reso- ■ lution contended that once the approval .of the two Synods concerned had beer j secured no lack of support would b< 1 forthcoming from the lay community oi ' the area. Opposition to the scheme wa.< I expressed by a Te Kuiti representative J who declared that the inclusion of th> i King Country within tlu> proposed are* j brought in districts which had no com ■ tnunity of interest in Taranaki. j The motion was then put to Synod am ! carried, with a slight emendation makin; 'provision for representatives alread} I elected by parishioners to continue to sit "AT H031E." BISHOPSCOL'RT. This afternoon the members of tin Synod were the guests of the Bishop am Mr?. Averill at Bishopscourt. Special services will be held to-morrov in St. Mary's Cathedral, when Revs T. O Robson. M.C.. ana G. C. Cruickshank C.F., will preach.
