Severai sp-akers advocated that the ■ WlaJcatane - Taneaitua - Opouriao road, about 1-4 miles. t»> made ai concrete, instead of beii>-j tarred. One speaker even declared that it would be useless to put a loan proposal for the four eastern ridinjja to tie vote unless the ratepayers had the opportunity to vote for making thb The County Council chairman (Mr. Walter Reidi said the cost would be , double that of a tarred road, but the reduced maintenance equalised the posi- : tion in the long run. A eonorete road j would necessitate a special loan over an j area, on each side of th-e road in addition Ito the present loan. He promised, if it were legally possible, the ratepayers should b»> given an opportunity to vote lon aJternative proposals of tar or concrete for thU road.
