LONDON "JOY-RIDE."

Noel Lardelli, -21, a private in the Aus- : tralian Motor Transport Section; David Ballantine, 23. private in the Ist Canter- . bury (New Zealand) Infantry Brigade; . and" Maurice Barton, 32, a gunner in the • New Zealand Field Artillery. were charged at Bow Street with stealing and f receiving a motor car, valued at £200, belonging to Captain Lionel Danyers j Bailey, M.C, R.A.M.C- of Denbigh | Gardens, Richmond. Captain Bailey said that he left the [ car in the Strand while he went into the Vaudeville Theatre. Later he discovered that the car had disappeared. At the close of the performance he was sent for to Bow Street, where he found that the vehicle had been recovered. A policeman said he saw defendants . get into the car, L-ardelli having started the engine. Jumping into a passing taxi, witness went in pursuit and overtook them. On the way to Bow Street. Lardelli confessed that he had "pinched" the car, and said that the other men had nothing to do with the affair. Lardelli told the magistrate that he was slightly drunk, and that he took the car for a joy-ride. He had no intention of stealing it. The magistrate committed defendant for trial, allowing Ballantine and Barton out on their own bail in £5.'
