STREET IMPROVEMENT LOAN.
ISSUE OF DEBENTURES. GOOD DEMAND. The City Council is issuing debentures for £25,000 of the streets improvement loan of £165,000, carried in January last, as this amount will be required during the next three months for various works that are to be taken in hand. Already .£17,000 worth of debentures of this amount have been sold, leaving debentures to the value of £8000 still to be disposed of. This, it is aaticipated, will not present any difficulty, as at 5J per cent it is considered an excellent investment for those who are not looking for speculative rates. Not a great deal of interest was taken in the poll of last January, only 1390 voters making use of their privilege, out of a total of 11,023 on the roll. The proposal was carried by a majority of 416.
