A DIVORCE GRANTED.
WIFE'S RUDE REMARKS. j At the Supreme Court this morning, | William Charles Baker, of Matata (Mr. j E. J. Prendergast) applied for a".divorce ( from Margaret Isabella Baker, on the ground of her misconduct with Patrick O'Shea. Counsel stated that the corespondent could not be found, and his Honor made an order dispensing witservice of the papers upon him. The petitioner, giving evidence, said that he was married to the respondent in 1905. and had no children. In September last he brought her to Auckland, asslhewasnot well, and needed a change. He left her with relatives, and provided her with enough money for her needs. She cortld not write, but the relatives communicated with him, and he sent up sufficient for her fare home, lie next received two wires from his wife, asking for money, and after he had sent her one slim he was served with a summons for maintenance. He went to Onehunga and saw his wife, who told him rudely to go away. He duly attended at the j Court, and consented to an order for £1 ' I a week. On account of certain infor- ' j mation, be took divorce proceedings, i j and was present when the papers were ■ j served on her. She then told him, ! " You're a fool. You ought to 1 have got this long ago." A brother-in-law of the respondent gave evidence ; about her conduct when in Auckland, ; and the Maori landlady of a boardinghouse in the city stated that the respon- ! j dent stayed several days at her house with a man named Patrick O'Shea. j His Honor jrranted a decree nisi, to be '.made absolute in three months.
