• Lieutenant' E. M. F. Stewart, of Napier, is at the Central Hotel. Dr. F. H. Williams, of Dunedin, is staying at Grand Hotel. The Hen J. T. PauL M.L.C., of Dunedin, returned South by last evening's express. Private J. W. Booker, of Auckland, whose name was omitted from the list, is returning by the transport Waimana. Mr. James Elliott, who died recently, was for 40 years a member and 30 years trustee of Masterton Methodist Church. Mr. YV. H. Morten, City Engineer, Wellington, has been re-appointed to represent New Plymouth borough on the Plumbers' Board of New Zealand. The appointment of Mr. Herbert Williams to be Chief Accountant of the New Zealand Government Railways is gazetted. Mr. F. A. Barclay, of the Wellington office, has been appointed manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society's Invercargill branch, in succession to Mr. A. G. Kemp, who goes to Oamaru. Major G. S. Sharp. N.Z.M.C. who left with the Main Body, and has served throughout the war, is expected to return to New Zealand by the Ruahiiie. due July 4th. Mr. W. 11. Hawkins, who recently returned from active service, has been appointed organiser and lecturer for the Prohibition party, with headquarters at Napier. Mr. -T. J. Feeney has resigned from the Wanganui branch of the South British Insurance Company to join the firm of Messrs. Smith, Webster and Co. Mr. Patrick McGregor, who has just died, aged 95 years, was an early settler in Southland. He was one of the original members of the 105 th Highland Regiment He came to New Zealand 44 years ago. Mr. V. Shorter has been appointed superintendent in New Zealand for the Atlas Insurance Co.. i„ succession to Mr. A. W. *ioung, who died durinn the! recent epidemic. | Mr. E. H. Davis, who leaves by the I Niagara on a visit to Honolulu. w"afi entertained last night at the Chamber of Commerce. Mr._A S. Mr. George CrolL a former well-known Government inspector of machinery i n New Zealand, died recently at Lower Ilutt, aged S2 years. He 'was born in \ustralia. and came across in ISGO to the Otag.. goldfields. He was Inspector OI Machinery for 2t5 years, and retired up on reaching the age limit.
