THE TRAMWAYS PURCHASE.
■ AND SUBURBAN DISTRICTS, ONLY MT. ALBERT TO AGREE. It was intimated to the City Council by Mr. J. H. Gunson last night that he had been informed by the Tramways Company that it had received consent to the transfer of the business to the City Council from the suburban local authorities of Onehunga, One Tree Hill, and Newmarket. That meant that the only local body which had not consented was Mt. Albert, and, at the invitation of that body, he intended to talk the matter over with the Mt. Albert Borough, Council this evening.
The Council endorsed an agreement to engage the present manager of the tramways for a term of five years, provisionally on the consent to the purchase being obtained: by all the local bodies interested in the tramways under the deed of delegation. On. the motion of Mr. H. N. Bagnall a vote of appreciation, of the great amount of work successfully undertaken by the Mayor to bring the scheme to fruition was carried, and Mr. Gunson, in acknowledging the resolution, pointed out that there was still a good deal to be done in the way of adjustments and rearrangements before the , transaction could be considered complete.
