ONE-TREE HILL.

DISTRICT'S WATER SUPPLY. REPORT RY AXALYST. i Some diecuflsion took plaoe at the meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Board last evening regarding the question of a water supply. Authority had been sought from the Health Department by the board to uee tlie water from the well previously used by the Manukau Water Supply Board. The following report from Mr. A. J. Parker. Government Analyst, on samples of the Onehunga and On* Tree Hill water was read: "I find the; One Tree Hill well water to be contami- : nated with organic matter to such an' extent as to make it unsuitable for town supply. Apart from the high contents of obnoxious matter (free and albumenoid ammoniasi, the two waters are very similar. The Onehunga water is higher in nitric nitrogen, which indicates it has been of a similar character, but has been subsequently purified. In my opinion the present etate of the One Tree! I Hill well is largely due to its stagnant j condition, and probably pumping for a! short time would show a much improved ! water in the well. In my experience your supply is very similar" to the One [ hunga eupply. and during the dry uor-, tion of the year both are good waters. lln the wet season both waters show too much organic matter for safety unless purified. I am of opinion your supply could be successfully treated in the same lor along similar lines to the Onehunga supply, and pure water obtained at rea--1 sonable cost. , '

I Members pointed out that the analyst i had not accepted two samplee taken"to ' him, but had obtainod samples for himself. The opinion was expre-wed that for J nine months of the year no purifying i treatment was necessary**

A committee was appointed to approach the Health Department on the matter.
