SEAMEN'S STRIKE SPREADS.
NEW ZEALAITD VESSELS JOIN. MELBOURNE COAL SHORTAGE. (Received 11.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A mass meeting of seamen passed a resolution against the ballot. The crews of the Union Company's Wakatipu and Karitane have given 24 hours' notice. It is anticipated that when the Manuka and Moeraki arrive the crows will act sirailarl}-. If the strike of seamen lasts another fortnight the coal shortage in Melbourne will be so acute that all exemptions granted for consumption will lie curtailed.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.) I'
