"MASKED MEN."
"I*s RUMOURS DENIED. v* SCARE AT DEVONPORT. There is a certain section of the public willing to accept a story when it is labelled with the word "Sensation," and i the people of Devonport have been . rather excited of late of the rumoured ! presence of "masked men." Ladies, I ever ready to believe a Story in which there is the slightest savour of mystery, I have, beeu locking doors and windows with the utmost rigour, and the evening I walks have been restricted to promenades accompanied by the reassuring figure of a man. But, in an attempt to ; trace these rumours to their source, we find that the main ingredients are a youth of comparatively tender years and a nervous, highly-strung imagination. It will, therefore, be a certain relief to the burgesses of Devonport to know that they may sleep sound, wit— . quiet minds. |' _ 1
